Purpose of the Position:
The Africa Strategy & Product team will primarily aim to develop expertise to drive key decisions around strategy, bouquets, product roadmap and pricing. In addition, the team will provide support to the commercial areas and Regional Directors (RDs) in terms understanding the competitive landscape, market sizing and designing country strategies. The team also drives the definition of the corporate strategy for the MAL business and drives strategic projects for the business.


Key Performance Objectives
Tasks


Timely and insightful delivery of monthly and quarterly tracking of competition, market trends, pricing, etc.
Timely and insightful feedback to data requests from to MAL EXCO, VE, Naspers etc.
Support for delivery of key Strategy and Product projects

Coordinate competition tracking across SSA, including managing a monthly tracking process for top 12 countries, running monthly competition briefings and keeping abreast of competition strategies and actions
Develop and maintain data sources for business to reference, for example:
Quarterly market tracking of TV penetration, pay TV penetration, subscribers per platform, addressable households, etc.
Monthly tracking of decoder and bouquet price points for MAL and competition
Consolidate overviews of channels per platform/bouquet
Conduct desktop research on competition, market trends, pay TV benchmarks, etc.
Develop and update briefs on competitors
Provide inputs for strategy presentations and for VE and Naspers reporting
Provide support for ad-hoc Strategy and Product projects as required
Keep abreast of industry, consumer and technology trends in the pay TV space


Qualifications
Bachelors Degree Majoring in Engineering, Marketing, Business Administration or Finance (MBA Preferred)


Experience
5-8 years minimum experience in relevant consulting; media and telecoms industry experience
2-4 years of experience in management consulting working on relevant projects ideal
3-4 years of industry experience in commercial functions (e.g. Marketing, Product Development) or strategy functions (e.g. Strategy, Business Development)
Strong understanding of subscription management services for the mass market consumer in Africa
Demonstrated success producing impactful business unit, country and / or product strategies
Demonstrated success in delivering strategy insights and strategic projects
