The paediatric tuberculosis (TB) team at the Desmond Tutu TB Centre (DTTC), in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health at Stellenbosch University, needs a reliable driver for a

large community-based TB research study among children.
The appointment will initially be made on a one-year temporary contract, with the possibility of extension depending on the availability of research funding and the incumbentΒs
sustained performance. The post will involve travelling to study sites in and around the City of Cape Town to ensure that participating children and their families attend the required clinic
and home visits.
Duties
Transporting participants, their families and staff to research sites for testing;
Assisting to trace the participants from a specific community and maintaining accurate records of all tracing attempts;
Transporting equipment and consumables between the DTTC head office and the study sites;
Collecting and transporting clinical specimens and study products as required;
Performing other driving duties as requested by the study team;
Taking responsibility for the vehicle allocated to the incumbent, amongst other things by maintaining the log-book and by ensuring that the vehicle is serviced regularly;
Performing all duties within the context of the mission, vision and values statement of Stellenbosch University.
Job Requirements
A valid driverΒs licence and professional driving permit (PrDP);
Grade 12;
Substantial experience and a clean record as driver;
Sound knowledge of Cape Town and environs;
The ability to work in a team;
A motivated approach to work;
The ability to pay attention to detail;
A highly organised work approach;
Good communication skills in English, both written and verbal;
The willingness to work flexible hours.
Recommendation
Proficiency in at least one of the following languages in addition to English: isiXhosa or Afrikaans;
At least two yearsΒ experience in a research environment and of driving duties;
GCP training (in good clinical practice).
