About the Position

My client is establishing a central Modelling Development team to design, develop and maintain Actuarial Models and Process Automation for the Financial Reporting & Pricing Functions in the life assurance business in Africa and requires a Modelling & Data Solutions specialist to join their team. Client Details My client operates in financial services industry in South Africa. Its products and services include speciality lending, finance and insurance brokering, receivables servicing, consumer insurance underwriting, and funds management. The company offers home, car, personal, and business loan products and services. Description Based in Johannesburg or Cape Town, the Modelling & Data Solutions incumbent will be responsible for the design, development and maintenance of the Actuarial Models and Process Automation for the Financial Reporting & Pricing Functions in the life assurance businesses in Africa. In addition, to focus on the actual models, the incumbent will also be responsible for IT solutions supporting the models and end-to-end automation, e.g. databases and other modelling/data platforms, as well as for minimising model & other risks via appropriate governance. Modelling & Data Solutions responsibilities include: Responsibilities will be assigned taking individuals' skill sets and preferences into consideration.

Finding and implementing solutions for modelling & reporting challenges (primarily for IFRS17)
Designing, implementing & maintaining appropriate IT solutions in support of the actuarial reporting function
Designing and maintaining databases for the management of all actuarial reporting data
Working on projects spanning several business units
Identifying opportunities for standardisation and improved efficiency through automation or process changes
Training & supervising others in modelling & processes
Implementing & maintaining data and model governance
ProfileQUALIFICATION, SKILLS & COMPETENCES:

B. Business Science or equivalent

Competence in Actuarial Finance or Financial Mathematics
2 or more years of applicable work experience demonstrating competency
Strong programming skills (exposure to Prophet, C#, SQL, DCS, VBA, etc. would be a distinct advantage, but exposure to other languages, e.g. Python, Java, SAS or R, will also be considered)
Demonstrable database skills
Strong analytical skills
