Job Description
An exciting opportunity exist within Nando's SA Information Technology department as a Junior Database Administrator to provide support and maintenance of development and production of databases.
The role has exposure to all aspects of database administration β e.g. installation/upgrade/patching, backup and recovery, performance tuning and optimisation, security control and management, ETL processes. It also includes daily checks (e.g. database backups), automating tasks, maintaining data feeds and investigating problems.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATION
- Degree or Diploma in Information Systems/ Engineering or Computer Science
- At least an SQL Server certification 70-461/70-761 or 70-462/70-762
- BI related qualification will be advantageous though not mandatory
EXPERIENCE
- 18 Months relevant DBA experience using at least SQL Server 2008
- Troubleshooting and resolving database problems.
- SQL Server Reporting Services is a plus
- SQL Server Analysis Services is a plus
- SQL Server Integration Services is a plus
- Performing database installations, upgrades and patching
- Database Query performance tuning and optimisation
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL
- Knowledge of the BI environment and data warehousing concepts (Basic)
- Knowledge of integrating ERP systems with other applications (Basic)
- Knowledge of web services (Basic)
- Knowledge of current and emerging technologies and how to integrate these in a business environment (Intermediate)
- Ability to write database queries (Intermediate)
- Ability to work independently and with a high degree of autonomy (Advanced)
- Ability to handle multiple tasks at the same time and effectively prioritise (Intermediate)
- Ability to adjust to new technology (Intermediate)

Duties & Responsibilities
ADMINISTRATION
Descriptor:
- Database Infrastructure & Security β Assist with the creation, deployment and maintenance of databases in both development and production environments.
- Daily Checks β monitoring of SQL Agent jobs, Database Serversβ system resources (storage and memory).
- Backup and Recovery β monitoring backup tasks, performing database restores where necessary and regular testing of backups.
- Reporting
o Ad hoc data extraction using T-SQL
o Generating and updating existing SSRS reports
- Communication β Clear and timely communications (verbal and written) to colleagues and internal customers.
- Service Delivery β Assist colleagues in achieving agreed service standards by maintaining database services to the required operational levels.
- Standards and Working Practices β Ensure that team processes and standards are adhered to accurately to ensure that the expected levels of service quality and performance are maintained.
- Documenting database environment processes and procedures.
- Database Index maintenance

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
Descriptor:
- Plans and manages the maintenance and improvement of databases, date warehouse including incorporating new releases and upgrades in order to ensure optimal performance
- Evaluates and recommends new database technologies
- Evaluates the effectiveness of existing internal processes and applications and proposes solutions and opportunities for automation and audit controls
- Identifies inefficiencies in system processes, recommending and implementing changes
- Gauges the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems, developing and implementing strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems
- Researches, evaluates and recommends new internet tools and applications for use in assigned responsibilities
COMPLIANCE AND GOVERNANCE MANAGEMENT
Descriptor:
- Complies with all electronic and physical security procedures and standards
- Implements Nandoβs information security policies and procedures
- Monitors adherence to Nandoβs technology standards, policies and procedures
- Follows and adheres to established government regulations and procedures for handling, media
- Follows standard help desk procedures, including the logging of issues
- Suggests modifications and additions to standards and guidelines
RECORDS MANAGEMENT AND REPORTING
Descriptor:
- Maintains all IT records and tracking for their area of responsibility and provides managers and users with regular updates as well as any relevant status and progress information
- Maintains a record of all inquiries from the initial call to incident resolution and provides the necessary information and documentation for issues that require escalation
- Prepares and maintains records of assigned work orders and work performed, including inserting and updating computerised service tickets
- Creates and maintains documentation for all support processes
- Completes the relevant documentation for in-house hardware and software systems as requested
PEOPLE MANAGEMENT
Descriptor:
- Provides assistance and support to the BA when necessary
