About the role

To perform tax accounting related pre-issuance work.

Essential skills and experience
2 – 3 years of experience in a similar role (big 4 audit firm)

 

 
MS Excel, Word, Powerpoint
Good administration skills
Driver’s licence and own transport
E-filing experience
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Vague understanding of legal principles
Working Tax knowledge
Experience in preparing tax returns on e-filing
Exposure to the Trust tax returns
Required qualifications
BCom with Accounting
Completed SAICA or SAIT traineeship will be an advantage
Post graduate qualification in Tax will be an advantage
CA(SA) will be an advantage
Responsibilities

Audit work/Tax Accounting
Auditing/ Tax reviews: auditing tax calculations of internal clients
Prepare the normal income tax calculation and deferred tax calculation for audit purposes for external clients
Review the normal income tax calculation and deferred tax calculation for audit purposes for internal clients
Checking the disclosure of the income and deferred tax balance(IFRS requirements) for internal and external clients
Write and submit tax reporting memo with regards to tax computation(issues, findings, proposed adjustments) to the audit manager for internal clients or to the client directly if it is an external client
Reconciliation of Clients’ tax general ledger to the SARS accounts(internal and external)

Tax Compliance
Tax compliance for both internal and external clients (Companies, Trusts)
Liaise with Clients to obtain trial balance, signed financial statements
Prepare and complete the income tax return as well as supporting schedules that will potentially be needed by SARS (tax pack)
Using the financial statements and trial balance provided
Liaise with client for any additional supporting documentation
Prepare transmittal letter to client with regard to calculation done and any issues noted
Obtain approval from Client to submit tax return on SARS website either on their own profile or PwC profile
Check SARS assessment to see if it agrees to the tax return submitted
If not in agreement, liaise with Client if they would like to raise objection on own or for us to do on their behalf
Liaise with Client to obtain ‘Power of Attorney’
Draft a letter to SARS explaining the grounds of the dispute in accordance with the Tax Administration Act.
Complete and submit relevant SARS documentation (NOO or ADR1)
If successful communicate with client. If not, continue with appeal
Liaise with client(Trusts, Companies, Individuals) to obtain information
Prepare tax calculations and return
Submit to SARS once approval from Client is obtained
In terms of second provisions, ensure that calculation agrees with fourth schedule of income tax act and is within 90% or 80% of actual taxable income for the year to avoid penalties
Liaise with client to obtain information relating to dividends paid or received
Prepare and submit DTR01 and DTR02 on e-filing once approval is obtained
Liaise with client to obtain information relating to VAT
Prepare and submit VAT201’s on e-filing once approval is obtained
Liaise with client to obtain additional information such as EMP201’s and VAT201’s for the completion of IT14SD reconciliations
Prepare and submit IT14SD’s on e-filing once approval is obtained

Tax Consulting
Upon request from Client, assist Manager or Partner to conduct research (sections in various Acts, case law, interpretation notes) relevant to client request
Assist Manager or Partner to draft formal tax opinion which includes background information, legal principles, and application thereof
Assist clients with income tax and VAT registrations at SARS by completing the registration application form, gathering all supporting documents from the client
Prepare and submit registration documents physically at SARS
Ad hoc dispute resolution – on client request, raise objection with SARS
Deregistration of Clients from SARS – obtain ‘Power of Attorney’ from Client, physically go to SARS to submit documents to de-register them from income tax/PAYE
Reviewing loan agreements, sale of business agreements, relevant resolutions

Risk Management
Prepare engagement letters and assignment confirmation letters and send to Client
CES (Central Entity Services) database to determine if entity is restricted or not. If restricted, prepare AFS (Approval for Services) requests to be sent to the relevant Partner (generally overseas)
Do independence and conflict checks
Client acceptance questionnaires for new clients
