Job Purpose
The incumbent will be responsible to manage and direct the Mechanical, Interiors and Trimming sections of South African Airways Technical (SAAT), ensuring that base maintenance on SAA and Customer Aircrafts is in accordance with the SLA’s, company and clients requirements. Furthermore, the incumbent will be responsible for managing the staff schedules, quality standards, safety and regulatory requirements.


Principal Accountabilities

1. To manage and direct Mechanical, Interiors, and Trimming sections of SAAT Departments in line with regulatory requirements to ensure delivery as per SLAs and quality standards
a) Manage the Mechanical and Interiors maintenance of aircrafts of SAA and third party customers in accordance with the SLA’s
b) Consult from a technical perspective on Mechanics and trimming to get aircraft serviceable without delays and put contingency plans to prevent any delays
c) Manage and oversee that tooling equipment are well maintained and serviceable
d) Review all contracts to ensure that all work in done in alignment to SLA’s
e) Work in conjunction with other departments in ORT Airport to prevent delays

2. To establish and manage the sections’ budget in line with SAAT Operations’ objectives
a) Contribute to establishing the annual budget, plan and review the capital budget in line with SAAT operations’ strategy/objectives and produce reports to track expenditure as required
b) Manage invoicing processes in order to ensure timeous and efficient generation of correct invoices and minimise cash flow issues

3. To enforce compliance to Quality Standards and Regulations in order to minimise SAAT’s exposure to risk
a) Enforce adherence to all regulatory, safety and compliance requirements
b) Manage delivery of work in line with the relevant regulatory requirements and where required, put contingency plans in place to reduce risk for the organisation
c) Continually seek ways to improve performance, efficiencies and maximize the use of resources. Track performance, especially deficiencies, and put contingency plans in place to prevent a reoccurrence of the same deficiency
d) Manage the environment and keep it at the required standard of health and safety and comply with policies and procedures, as well as client SLA’s
e) Oversee safety training and aware campaigns in order to ensure that staff are kept up to date

4. To maintain customer satisfaction at highest level in order to maintain relationships
a) Manage relationships and service levels so that customers receive the highest level of service and quality workmanship at all times in accordance with applicable technical handling contracts and SLA’s
b) Provide input, to the Marketing Department, into pricing costs and timelines for customers in order to offer competitive pricing and contracts

5. To manage the section’s human resources in line with SAAT’s HR policies and procedures
a) Recruit staff per the section’s staffing demand
b) Identify the training needs of the section’s staff and oversee their development in order to ensure and maintain competence
c) Develop performance contracts for all direct reports in line with the Planning department’s objectives, conduct performance appraisals to measure productivity and meet objectives
d) Initiate appropriate Labour Relation action within the section where necessary
e) Motivate employees’ within the section to ensure high morale and improve productivity
f) Adhere to all HR policies and procedures
g) Maintain regular staff meetings and feedback sessions


Qualifications & Experience
Relevant Degree, N6, or equivalent and 7 years’ Operations Management experience of which 4 years in a Supervisory position and 3 years in an environment with a large headcount and with union involvement
OR
Relevant Diploma plus 9 years’ Operations Management experience of which 5 years in a Supervisory position and 5 years in an environment with a large headcount and with union involvement
OR
12 years’ years’ Operations Management experience of which 7 years in a Supervisory position and 5 years in an environment with a large headcount and with union involvement
