Our client a dynamic Financial Services Company based in the North is seeking to employ a Life Underwriting Risk Consultant

The purpose of the job

Driving the formulation and implementation of the risk model and underwriting philosophy, analysis of claims and other data to recommend and implement changes to the Risk model suggesting new risk strategies, managing relationships and policies with the Reinsurers, creating training material and education risk consultants on industry standards, traits and risk management skills, assisting with the definition of operational process relating to risk management. Your role may change from time to time depending on your performance, your needs, the Business's. The Company will confirm any changes to your role or duties in writing


Be able to evaluate application forms and supporting documentation in preparation of making an underwriting decision

Gathering information and various types of reports from medical practitioners

Evaluate the degree of medical, financial, vocational and avocation risk

Computing results from appropriate premiums using actuarial information, other statistics and own judgement

Writing underwriting standards/policies

Auduiting/QA of work done by peers - Accomplished

Deliver underwriting decisions

Determine requirements

Decide on reinsurance placement strategy of cases

Explain and sell decisions to brokers and other stakeholders - accomplished

You must have :

The ability to learn
Sould business to Operational knowledge of the Insurance Industry administrative process
Ability to learn and train on business systems
Be familar with Compliance Processes and procedures in the Insurance Industry
Be familiar with busines products familiar in their rules
You must have
Matriculatio NQF Level 5 Accreditation (Broad based knowledge)
Physiology, Medicine, Nursing
Matric with biology, science, English and Maths on higher grade (65%)
2 - 3 years as an Underwriter
Excellent verbal and written skills
Must have good numerical skills
Accurate typing and MS Office and PC Literate
Excellent communication skills - verbal and written
Must be organised and have the ability to pay attention to detail
Right admin skills
Ability to work effectively with others and contribute to the team task accomplishments
Quality driven be organised
Using effective interpersonal skilsl to resolve conflict situations
