Our client in the media and broadcasting industry is looking to hire a dynamic and driven data Scientist to join their team.

POSITION : Data Scientist
AREA : Randburg
SALARY : Market Related

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
The candidate must design, develop, maintain and support projects using a variety of Big Data/Data Science technologies.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have BSc Computer Science / Engineering is mandatory. Honors, master’s or doctoral degree prefered

- Must have 4 – 5 years’ experience in a comparable environment
- Must have experience in reporting and presentation to senior and executive management
- Must have strong core Java skills
- Must have strong Linux skills
- Must have knowledge and experience building massively scalable systems
- Must have knowledge and experience working with high volumes of data (beneficial)
- Must have knowledge of SCRUM and Agile methodologies (beneficial)

Languages:
- Required: Java , Python, HTML, JavaScript, Linux shell scripting
- Beneficial: NodeJS

DB:
- Required: MSSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, ElasticSearch
- Beneficial: HDFS, Hadoop, HBase

Other:
- Required: Data Science, AI & ML experience
- Required: Experience with common data science toolkits, such as R, Weka, NumPy, MatLab, etc.
- Required: Excellent understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms, such as k-NN, Naive Bayes, SVM, Decision Forests, etc.
- Beneficial: Experience with data visualization tools, such as D3.js, GGplot, etc.
- Beneficial: Tensorflow, Keras, Spark, Mahout, Storm, Docker, third party Analytics platforms

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design, develop, maintain and support projects using a variety of Big Data/Data Science technologies. Typical duties include:

- Selecting features, building and optimizing classifiers using machine learning techniques
- Data mining using state-of-the-art methods
- Extending company’s data with third party sources of information when needed
- Enhancing data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems
- Processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis
- Doing ad-hoc analysis and presenting results in a clear manner
- Creating automated anomaly detection systems and constant tracking of its performance
- Developing real-time reports, dashboards and visualizations
