A large financial service company based in Randburg seeks a Backup Systems Engineer with:



Role Purpose:

The incumbent will work within the Open Systems Storage team where they will be responsible for maintaining and managing the Open Systems Backup environment. The individual will be required to do standby and work after hours in maintenance slots.

Responsibilities:

Must be able to follow new Storage backup solution trends and stay abreast with technology changes
Must have excellent interpersonal skills as the job requires contact with external, internal Clients as well as Vendors
Provide training and mentor junior staff
Ability to produce and present Management Reports and Statistics

Project Management skills with the ability to lead meetings and workshops is essential
Knowledge of Data Domain, Hitachi Content Platform, Hitachi Network Attached Storage, Netbackup Appliances and NEC HydraStor solutions will be an advantage
Experience of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery
Engineering new enterprise storage solutions as required
Document new and existing processes
Change flawed processes and designs as per best practices
Must have experience on monitoring tools pertaining to backend storage and performance issues, relating to backup devices
Understand and adhere to the Change Management and ITIL processes
Minimum Requirements:

No less than 3 – 5 years’ experience on Open Systems backup / Data Protection environments
Must have comprehensive data backups and restores skills
Must have a broad knowledge of backup/ data protection technologies
Must have thorough knowledge of the Symantec (VERITAS) Storage Foundation, Netbackup products as well as Commvault Backup Solutions
Exposure to other backup solutions will be an advantage
General IT knowledge for trouble shooting purposes
Must have Network problem resolution skills
Windows, Linux, Solaris and AIX knowledge
Must have Capacity planning skills
A high degree of assertiveness and self-confidence is essential
Must have good time management skills
Must have your own transport
