Learnership Programme at Department of Correctional Services (DCS)

The FET Certificate in Correction Services Learnership in DCS . The opportunity to acquire skills, knowledge and workplace experience in the field of Corrections and earn a stipend of R 3500. 00 for the twelve months duration of the learnership.

The DCS is looking for persons from various communities, interests and appropriate qualifications to enter into Further Education and Training Certificate in Corrections Services Learnership (NQF Level 4). The learners will be trained in the areas of rehabilitation of offenders through correction and human development in secure, safe and humane detention or under the community based correctional supervision. English will be used as the medium of instruction.

Basic enlistment requirements:

South Africans who are in possession of the Grade 12/ Standards 10; or
South Africans who have successfully completed the National Certificate in Vocational Studies (NQF Level 4); or
South Africans who have successfully completed a further Education and Training Certificate NQF (Level 4) or N4
NB: Candidates with an additional qualification(s) such as Trade or Occupational-based Certificate, Diploma or Degree related to Corrections/ Security shall be given preference. Additional qualification(s) shall not be recognized for the stipend paid or for future remuneration purposes.

Furthermore, applicants must be South Africans who:

i. Are least 18-35 years;
ii. Have strong character;
iii. Are prepared to allow their fingerprints to be taken to allow the background check-ups and enquiries to be done;
iv. Are law-abiding citizens and are without criminal records (particulars of the pending criminal cases must be provided during the interviewing process).
v. Are prepared to subject themselves to interviews and selection conducted by DCS.
vi. Are prepared to disclose information and allow DCS to verify their submitted qualifications, and citizenship.
vii. Are prepared to be subject to psychometric testing by the DCS.

This application forms is obtainable from your nearest Management Area / Correctional Services Offices / Correctional Centres or the Regional or Head Office.

The forms can be obtained from the DCS website (www.dcs.gov.za) and please take note that these forms are not for sale.

Specify the learnership post which you are applying for (e.g. Gauteng Region: Leeuwkop (Ref 1/2015).

Make sure that you do not leave empty spaces and the application must be signed by the applicant (not by a proxy, agent not representative of the applicant).
Attach certified copies of your certificates and Identity document that are not older than 3 months.

No late, incomplete or unsigned application forms shall be accepted.

Furthermore, photocopies of completed forms, faxed or e-mailed applications shall not be accepted.
Taking into consideration that you have to provide your own transport and accommodation during your experiential learning, you are therefore advised to apply for learnership enrolment within the Regional Management Area close to where you stay.
