AVBOB as a pacesetter in the funeral business seeks to employ a high calibre candidate for the position of VMware Virtualization Administrator. The position is based at our Head Office in the Pretoria CBD.

Specification
Assist in the management and support of product integration services with multiple

business partners, including real-time web services and batch processing.
Assist in managing the corporate systems in a racked Windows/Intel environment,
including the following: Windows 2003, Windows XP, Active Directory, MS Exchange,
MS Terminal Services, DNS services, spam filters, intrusion detection systems, Cisco
VPN and firewalls and VMware servers.
Server hardware provisioning including configuration and deployment.
Data backup management, scheduling and reporting for both internal corporate
systems and data centre systems.
Management of HP data protect systems.
Build and deploy virtualization servers for corporate and data centre environments.
Responsible for troubleshooting and problem solving of HP-UX and VMware
development.
Responsible for improvement and maintenance of the databases to include rollout and
upgrades.
Responsible for implementation and release of database changes according to agreed
timescales and costs.
Responsible for ensuring availability and performance of the databases that support
the system.
Work to ensure that the associated hardware resources allocated to the databases and
to ensure high resilience and performance tuning.
To proactively monitor the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum
downtime (both HP-UX and VMware servers and interfaces).
Responsible for providing trend analysis to management team to enable them to make
informed decisions regarding resource management.


Requirements
4 Years’ experience supporting complex networks with Microsoft servers, Cisco
firewalls, VMware servers and software, DNS services, spam filters, and VPN
management.
5 Years’ experience supporting HP-UX servers.
3 Years’ experience in managing Microsoft-centric web deployments with clustering
technologies.
4 Years’ experience supporting enterprise class applications in production
environments certificates, licenses, registrations.
Proven track record of implementing highly complex server environments.
Basic knowledge of SCM (software configuration management) products such as
Subversion or CVS.
Heavy experience working in a virtualized environment (VMware) is required.
Working knowledge of web services, web application development, MS SQL.
Minimum 5 years’ experience of this position.
Experience of managing multiple MS servers 2003/2008.
Experience of managing multiple Adabas/Natural databases.
Strong self-sufficiency and initiative working on Database projects
Practical experience in monitoring and tuning a database to provide a high availability service
Practical experience in managing the internal and external HP HP-UX systems and VMware
database security.
BSc degree in Computer Science or Degree in Information Technology or 3 Year National
Diploma or equivalent professional qualifications.
ITIL Certification
MCSE certification is desirable
Intermediate level negotiation skills.
Must have a high level of comfort working in a rapidly changing, fast-paced start-up
environment.
High competence, with a track record of strong problem solving.
Highly motivated, experienced, resourceful and efficient with a “Can Do” attitude.
Strong work ethic is a must.
Must be self-motivated, eager to learn and willing to take direction.
Organized and detail-oriented, with demonstrated analytical skills.

Experience of working in a team that delivers a high availability service.
A good understanding of database architecture, software and database management systems.
The ability to work quickly, under pressure and to deadlines.
Good communication, presentation and negotiating skills.
A good understanding of the Data Protection Act.
