Top Sealer Operator (Wine bottles)

Job Purpose:

Carries out the required operating activities on the Top Sealer section of the Bottling Line, ensuring processing problems are promptly attended to and mandatory quality control documentation is completed accurately and timeously.

Main responsibilities

Machine Operation

 Carries out operating activities according to the Standard Operating Procedures / Instructions.

 Monitors the processing of the Top Sealer operation to ensure the smooth flow of production and quality by carrying out physical checks at regular intervals.

 Ensures the machine is running at the correct specifications and standards by regularly checking the calibration and settings of the machine.

 Checks that the Top Sealer meets requirements as per the set specifications.

 Makes the necessary basic machine specification changes when changing from one product to the next by making basic adjustments, using Allen keys and/or adjustment handle during change-over of product.

Sealing Processes

 Checks the correct sealing materials are used for each production run to ensure the product specifications for a specified product meet the sealing requirements of the product specifications.

 Loads the Sealing section of the Bottling Line machine with the correct sealing materials ensuring the correct operating procedures are followed.

 Checks and verifies that the relevant product documentation (QC Production Record Pack) is completed accurately and timeously according to quality control requirements.

 Attends promptly to processing problems to ensure minimal quality and production efficiency losses.

 Identifies potential machine problems and advises the Shift Supervisor accordingly.

Quality Control

 Checks and verifies product specifications to prevent incorrect products being produced causing waste, re-runs and negatively affecting efficiency targets

 Checks and verifies that all quality control procedures are followed and that all required documentation is completed correctly with every production run

 Adheres to QMS standards and procedures

Health, Safety and Housekeeping

 Ensures compliance with Health & Safety policies and procedures, reporting any unsafe safety act immediately.

 Ensures housekeeping is kept in good order and meets the required standards for all areas of responsibility, including the machines which have to be kept clean and neat and in pristine condition at all times.

Job Requirements

 MUST HAVE MATRIC/ GRADE 12 with English as a subject and have the ability to communicate, read and understand English fluently and have good numeracy skills with a minimum of two years working experience in a similar wine making position / environment.

Knowledge and Skills

 Product, wine bottling and palletizing production process knowledge

 Ability to fully understand and carry out Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and Operating Machine Instructions

 Ability to make basic machine adjustments using specialised tools when changing machine specifications at product change overs.

 Must have previous experience working with a Human Machine Interface (HMI)

 Ability to identify machine instability or potential breakdowns

 Knowledge of HACCP systems

 Computer skills (MS Outlook/Word/Excel) an added advantage.
