Safety Officer
Leading distribution center is looking to employ a Safety Officer:
Advise line management and assist with the implementation of new and existing SHEQ-related legislation and company rules.
To ensure prevention inspections are completed on a regular basis and ensure records are maintained.
To ensure accidents are investigated and relevant documentation is completed accurately within acceptable time frames.
Assist with preparing and participation of external SHERQ audits.
Engagements with management, outside consultants, environmental and regulatory bodies.
Conducting and coordinating internal and external safety audits.
Maintaining set targets related to site safety (DIFR, Near misses).
Inspecting the workplace and workplace equipment to ensure they meet safety regulations and legislation.
Participating in external audits as well as conducting occupational health, safety and environmental related surveys and providing recommendations.
Planning, conducting and producing reports for non-conformance & incidents, training, meetings and audits for health and safety activities
Conducting regular audits & inspections of the sub-contractors to ensure that all health and safety requirements are being met
Ensures that sub-contractors safety files are kept up to date with relevant and accurate records
Developing, implementing, reviewing and training staff on emergency plans.
CORE COMPETENCIES:
Marsh Risk Control standards
Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations
COID Act
National Building Regulations
Fire Prevention and defence procedures
Emergency Procedures
MS office (Word; Excel etc.)
Senior Certificate
National Higher Diploma in Safety Management or equivalent
Fire Prevention course.
An Incident investigation course.
Advanced OHS Act training (e.g. Samtrac or equivalent.)
Basic management skills.
