The Legal Recoveries Consultant is responsible to maximize monetary and vehicle recovery on all accounts in the Legal portfolio. This position requires a self-directed individual to meet set targets related to the recoveries of monies and vehicles, as well as to ensure that the necessary legal processes are done to protect the interests of the Company in the context of outstanding retail debt on a monthly basis. In addition, the resource is required to provide legal support services and assistance in all legal matters relating to BMW Financial Services. The function includes the responsibility for weighing up the relative costs and benefits of potential action; to make decisions readily and confidently; to take action and apply corrective measures when the situation demands it. To be involved in system changes and enhancements.

Achieve the monthly monetary recovery target on the legal portfolio.
Prioritize first time resolution on customer and/or supplier queries to minimize re-work in the department. Ensure that the volume of accounts worked on a daily/weekly/monthly basis is in line with target expectations.
Maintain a monthly quality forum result of at least 90% which assesses the following: procedural adherence, telephone etiquette, collection technique, first time resolution, email etiquette, follow-up actions, and quality of advice and positive outcome of interaction.
Ensure matters relating to vehicle recovery receive the required attention and is resolved within 48 hours. This includes matters that are labelled “absconsion” and/or “lien” related.


Based on pre-defined matrices, ensure all matters are handed over when identified in accordance with the strategy at the time.
Attend and resolve all client and regulatory queries/complaints within 48 hours.
Keep abreast and maintain detailed knowledge of all pieces of legislation that impacts the department and/or organisation within the realm of Legal Recoveries.
Identify and proposes changes to procedures that are deemed ineffective or weak to promote efficiency, compliance and a better working environment.
Manage external suppliers, such as External Debt Collectors, to ensure that their efforts are supported in pursuit of legal recoveries (monetary and vehicles).
Attend to all attorney/ NCR/ Ombud and client queries and requirements within 48 hours.
Ensure processes related to insolvent/sequestrated/deceased estates are followed and completed upon interaction.
Ensure matters deemed uneconomical to pursue are submitted for write-off upon interaction.
Administer payments and invoices related to suppliers on a monthly basis.
Monthly Reporting.
Attend to Credit Bureau queries upon interaction.
Attending court on behalf of BMW Financial Services in the capacity of witness or representative.
Assisting recovery agents and external partners.

Qualifications and experience
Relevant Tertiary Qualification in Law
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a legal recoveries role.
Understanding of Facilities Management and Service Provider Management.
Previous experience in a VAF collection environment would be advantageous.
Previous experience managing process related to insolvent/ sequestrated/ deceased estates required.
Computer Literate (MS Office, Windows, SAP, BEAM, Collect Smart).
