Facilitator: Mechanical Fitter (x2 Posts)
RESPONSIBILITIES ο·
Providing theoretical and practical training applicable to the Mechanical Fitter trade, and
according to predetermined curriculums and lesson frameworks ο·
Assess and/or moderate theoretical and practical competencies of learners in the
programmes against pre-determined requirements ο·
Ensure that training equipment, workshops and related resources are available and in
working order, and conduct regular inventory control ο·
Perform administrative and management functions, including preparing and submitting
reports to relevant authorities, preparation of training registers, preparation and completion
of learner files, and any other administration required by oversight bodies. ο·
Attend industry and training workshops, as well as any other prescribed training to ensure
own continuous professional development ο·
Ensure training environment and activities are compliance to all safety, health and
environmental requirements ο·
Plan delivery of the occupational qualification in such a way that the learners are prepared
to complete and pass the relevant assessments and trade test ο·
Manage the scheduling of learner for theory and industry placement/practical components
of the programme ο·
The preferred candidate will have the ability to take on a leadership and mentorship role,
will be focused on customer service, will be disciplined and professional and will have
excellent interpersonal skills ο·
He/she will be focused on his/her own continuous professional development
REQUIREMENTS ο·
Grade 12, and qualified as a Mechanical Fitter with trade test passed ο·
2 years facilitation/lecturing/training as a Mechanical Fitter training officer/lecturer ο·
3 β 5 yearsβ artisan experience as a Mechanical Fitter in industry with specific experience in
the following areas: mechanical fitter tools, equipment; basic engineering and rigging;
fabrication of components/work pieces; dissemble, clean, inspect, overhaul and replace
mechanical sub-assemblies; fault finding and reporting; pneumatic systems; install and
commission mechanical sub-assemblies and machines and lubricating systems ο·
Knowledge of the Mechanical Fitter industry & the legislative and regulatory environment ο·
Knowledge of and experience in implementing Occupational Health and Safety regulations
and requirements ο·
Verbal and written communication skills ο·
Presentation or lecturing skills ο·
Report writing skills ο·
Planning and organizing skills, including lesson planning skills, analytical skills, conceptual
ability and the ability to assess learners ο·
Computer literacy in MS programmes (Word and Excel) ο·
A valid driverβs licence
RECOMMENDATIONS ο·
Education, Training and Development (ETDP) or related qualification ο·
Registered Assessor and/or Moderator for the Mechanical Fitter trade ο·
More than 2 years facilitation/lecturing/training as a Mechanical Fitter training
officer/lecturer will be an added advantage
All shortlisted candidates will be expected to participate in an assessment of his/her workplace
experience in the trade
