This once small Company that began operations a number of decades ago has grown exponentially into a major player in the manufacturing, distribution and marketing of its product range in South and Southern Africa. It also has distribution and licensee rights from major players in their industry and offers individualised solutions for their customers via their technical division. There is an efficient supply chain and logistics function that guarantees their products are delivered quickly and efficiently to order, thanks to their wide national distribution channels and logistics staff. Furthermore, there are advanced laboratory facilities and their plant is ISO accredited to ensure that the Company meets the highest international standards.
As CEO, the incumbent will take full responsibility for the “bottom line” and running of this high profile Company. It has a flat management structure and employs relatively few staff in comparison to its turnover and which includes specialised Sales Managers for their respective brands, Financial Manager, Marketing Manager, Plant Manager and Support Staff. It needs to be emphasised that the plant is highly automated and computer driven with several Chemists employed in the facility to ensure the high quality of products manufactured in a relatively simple manufacturing process.

The sales driven CEO will, inter alia, be fully involved in the sales function together with the sales team to ensure turnover targets are achieved. This will include developing and maintaining relationships with key customers at middle and senior management level noting that the Company is high profile and often features in the news media. Furthermore, particular attention needs to be focused on the Company’s supply chain and logistics function ensuring the various products arrive at their customers at the right time, to the right place and at the right price. The need to oversee the plant ensuring that the manufacturing process is efficient and that the various products are produced according to strict formulae is critical. The financial drivers of the business need to be strictly controlled and adhered to, so as to ensure the positive impact on the operation and its continued profitability.

The ideal candidate will most likely have an Engineering qualification with the necessary experience and proven track record in general management coupled with a sales personality. As outlined above, this is a high profile Company in their niche sector and the CEO does receive media attention and the need to be somewhat charismatic and persuasive with their customers in particular, is an essential quality required. Furthermore, the requirement to understand a simple manufacturing process, be highly numerate, have leadership qualities and be proactive coupled with business and commercial acumen are further essential qualities that the candidate needs to possess.
