Job Purpose

The job purpose of the Accountant is to develop, manage and implement the business development initiatives of the IoDSA as a whole.

Key responsibilities and duties

Membership and operations

Prepare schedule for lease smoothing and initiate journals
Open salaries account for new employee in accordance with form from Operations manager
Update all personnel on the dates of payments
Open new employees on Pastel payroll from staff information
Capture leave days due
Run legislative updates
Backup all pastel data


Contact Pastel Payroll consultant for half year update on e-filing system
Obtain all the forms from SARS and complete them
Provide for signature
Liaise with SARS with written consent
Write letters to SARS for signature
File income tax with SARS
Liaise with tax specialist


Prepare reconciliation for accounts
Prepare reconciliation for provision accounts
Agree general ledger to the reconciliation
Initiate journal to be passed at month end

Loans and receivables

Capturing of new assets on database
Prepare reconciliation of all payments in advance
Prepare reconciliation of all payments in advance
Prepare monthly journals thereof

Investment with banks

Withdraw bank statements of accounts
Update the investment reconciliation
Update investment reconciliation
Prepare monthly journals

Cash and Cash Equivalents

Credit card cashbook capturing on Pastel
Credit card cashbook reconciliation
Withdraw list of receipts in Pastel and agree to cashbook
Update all personnel on the dates of payments


Report on financial data comparison between Pastel and YM
Ensure all YM transactions are in Pastel and follow up on all outstanding transactions.
Liaise with Integration expert on YM-Pastel issues.

Required Skills
Knowledge of advanced clerical, operational or customer service skills acquired through education, experience or on the job training

Excellent verbal and writing skills
Advanced level of PC literacy and the use of Microsoft Office Suite is required
Demonstrate a high level of confidentiality
High standard of record keeping
Own reliable transport for client meetings and presentations
The ability to practically apply this knowledge on the job

Experience, training and knowledge
Degree in Accounting
Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience interacting with an management level within a professional organization
A good understanding of Corporate Governance

Degree in Accounting.
