2 X Senior Software Engineer

Our client an NPC is looking for 2 X Senior Software Engineers to join their cutting edge agile development team. You will be joining the organization to work on their existing range of Health Information Exchange (HIE) related projects and new ones as they emerge. Their work includes the development and advancement of existing open source tools as well as developing innovative a new FHIR server and associated tools that support exchanging health information at scale. The work is the foundation of some exciting national health systems as well as being used by other teams working in the field of digital health. Joining organization you will have the opportunity to be exposed to international open source projects, working on setting standards and bringing new ideas to the space as well as helping build sustainable and innovative solutions.

The successful candidates should have a minimum of 5 years experience working with JavaScript and Java technologies in production enterprise environments, and have a strong background in computer science. They should be self-motivated, hardworking, and keen to learn and be interested in public healthcare.

The organization is a not for profit company specializing in Health Information Systems and Digital Health. they do work for Ministries of Health all over Africa (South Africa, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Uganda), and partner with international organisations like MSF, the Rockefeller Foundation, UNICEF, CHAI, MSH, CDC and USAID to provide software solutions to improve health outcomes in low resource settings. Most of coding is open source and run a tight-knit, awesome agile team consisting of 20 developers, each with particular skills. 5 have master’s degrees in computer science, and have worked at web-scale companies like Myspace and Quantcast. They run their sprints using JIRA.

Other tools: Ansible, Docker, Vagrant, Jenkins, Travis and lots and lots of EC2 and Digital Ocean VMs.

Required Skills and Experience:

Solid understanding of enterprise software architecture, caching, messaging and queuing frameworks and web technologies and protocols
Experience as a senior software engineer, with the ability to mentor a development team
Excellent coding skills and understanding of software design patterns and architecture.
Backend development experience with JavaScript

Frontend development experience with JavaScript, HTML, CSS and relevant web platforms and libraries
Use of Agile development practices
Expertise in relational and NoSQL database development
Ability to take ownership of the software deliverables and work unsupervised by other senior developers
Responsibility for risk management of the overall software product
Mentorship of other software engineers


Additional Skills and Experience:

Experience in the public health sector
Previous work with Electronic Health Record systems
Remuneration

The successful candidate will be appointed to a one year contract (renewable) which is available immediately.
